X-Ray Shoe Fitter

Over the past few days, I’ve been out and about and I’ve seen women who took the time to comb & curl their hair, put on makeup, pick out a beautiful ensemble to wear and then I got to their feet.  What is going on at the bottom that isn’t quite projecting the top?  The first woman I saw was going for a relaxing cup of her favorite Starbucks dressed beautifully and she was flawless…until I looked at the fact that her shoes were too big.  The second woman I met today, she was a lovely lady, again dressed well, makeup done, hair nice and neat and as we walked down the stairs, she readily admitted that going up was easier because her shoes were too big.  I didn’t dare ask because I already know the answer.  They were the “perfect pair but they didn’t have them half size smaller”.  I am a huge fan of shoes but I have to be honest, even with all of the heels I own, I am also a huge fan of comfort.  Contrary to popular belief, I do not live my entire life in 4 inch heels, you must and I emphasize must take care of your feet.  I recently posted on my fanpage that over the course of a lifetime, the average person walks 115,000 miles.  That’s a lot of places your little tootsies are obliged to carry you.

If that shoe looks good but it doesn’t fit, it’s not for you.  It’s that simple, it can’t be the perfect shoe if it’s going to create bunions, blisters, corns & other issues.  Wearing shoes that are ill fitting only serve to exacerbate these issues. Here are a few tips to follow when you are adding new shoes to your closet:

  1. Try on BOTH shoes, our bodies naturally have one side a little smaller than the other.  In most cases it is not highly visible but your shoes know.  Put them both on, walk around the store for a little while before making a final decision.
  2. Before wearing the shoes out, determine the types of activities you will be involved in and practice.  For example, if you are going out for a night on the town that includes dancing, shake your bum at the house first to determine if these are truly dancing shoes or just the ones you’ll wear to get inside the club.
  3. Try your new shoes out on various surfaces.  If you are going to an outdoor event, your shoes will perform differently on the pavement than they will on carpet or wood floors.  I can tell you from personal experience, wooden bottomed shoes tend to be quite slick.  Keep that in mind or purchase the shoe grips that attach to the soles of shoes prior to going out.
  4. If you are out and notice your shoes starting to rub or become uncomfortable, ditch them as quickly as you can.  No don’t throw them away but try to sit or take them off.  Prolonged rubbing will surely affect you tomorrow when you are wearing your comfy shoes.
  5. Travel with a pair of standby shoes.  If you are wearing new shoes out for the first time, you can’t really practice enough for every situation and prolonged wear may still cause some new shoe discomfort.  Be prepared and have a spare pair.

I hope these tips help keep you cute AND comfortable.  It’s wonderful to go out looking great but remember, the shoes matter.  I also feel compelled to say, please, Please, PLEASE make sure to polish your toenails if you’re going to wear open toed shoes.  I’m just sayin’   ;-)

Let me tell you that I have really been working hard! I’ve been out networking, socializing, hob nobbing and almost every other positive thing with an ING. Starting a new business takes a lot of hard work. Well, I am so excited, I got a call about a week ago from a fashion stylist who said “We need shoes & you were the first person I thought of”. This translates to “You’re everywhere & people are talking so I remembered you”. At least that’s what it translated to in my mind. :-)

Being in business means that even though you may have altruistic reasons for a lot of what you do, the primary concern with business is usually business first. Needless to say, I wanted to know how passing along these shoes were going to benefit my business. Turns out, the show is Nationally syndicated on NBC, it’s called Daytime and has a viewing audience of 95M + and of course, that made me squeal with joy & give up the shoes! The shoes were to be used for their Monday Makeover. I excitedly posted everywhere I could think to post (I even considered signing up for more social media sites just to shout it from the virtual rooftops, but I refrained).

The stylist gave me fair warning before the airing that they did not (in the interest of time) have a chance to mention my business name. I will admit, this was quite disappointing but I said, at least they now know I exist. After the show, I phoned and left the producer a voice mail again stating if they ever need shoes…or a shoe diva guest, I am available. While I did not see a huge surge in the analytics of my web site, I have seen a slight increase in traffic since that airing. Recently, I read a post about making your personal brand rock and it used some killer cars as examples. I said I was working my brand toward becoming a Bentley Convertible. I think I’m moving in the right direction. Here are the shoes…As Seen on Television!

I love checking out what people are wearing, especially on their feet. I love what I consider a “conversation starter” shoe. You’ve seen the shoe that just draws you in and makes you ask it’s owner about it. Well, recently, I was at an Expo & I came across Leslee who is filled with personality and she had on a conversation starter shoe. I use the term shoe loosely and after watching the video, you will understand. Thanks so much Leslee for sharing both your fabulous personality & your shoe with me!

The next time you go shopping, pay attention.  You’ll hear the squeal factor at work.   What is the squeal factor?  It’s that sound you make that only makes sense to you when you see something that creates a good feeling.  You’ve heard it, you’ve done it.  If you saw something wonderful and you said “mmm” “Oooh” “Ahhh” or “oooo” and any variation of the aforementioned, then your squeal factor was at work.

Funny thing is, this seems to really only affect women.  Wait, that’s not true, even little girls have a squeal factor.  Listen the next time you’re out and passing the toy section, you’ll hear that sound that will eventually grow to include not only toys but shoes, purses & killer clothing.  I rate my squeal factor on a scale of 1 to infinity!  I have been known to make sales people come running…even when I’m alone, because they just KNOW they’re about to make a sale.  There is nothing inconspicuous about that sound and everyone around you knows what it means even though technically, you never really utter a word.   If you see a group of young girls shopping together, you can hear it all through the mall, it’s annoying and like any other super power, it must be controlled.  As we grow older, we tend to tone it down but occasionally we’ll see something we just love and then it’s a full throttle squeal factor 5 and you too will have sales people coming out of the woodwork.  After you buy whatever that item was that sent the “squeal factor” beam into the air like Gotham City summoning Batman, share your pics so the rest of us can “ooo” and “aaahh”.

A Personal NoteI love shoes!  I think I profess that every time I write a blog post.  I love fashion and looking good.  I want to think that each time I share with you, I have something of value to add.  Well, believe it or not, there are times (more often than not) that I have no idea what to write.  I have tried to write about designers, new trends and shoes that I think you might enjoy reading about.  I’ve decided to apologize for that.  Why you ask?  While I love my subject matter, I am not writing from my heart and that keeps me from updating frequently.

I am the single mother of 2, I run a business (unrelated to shoes & fashion) and I have a part time job.  This does not always leave a lot of room to find something “new” to share.  I own well over 200 pairs of shoes, I have a passion or maybe it’s an obsession with shoes.  I can talk about shoes but I must confess, not all of my shoes are designer shoes.  I tell people, I will buy shoes from anywhere at any price point.  I have flip flops that I paid a $1 for as well as a few pricey pairs of shoes.  I am the same way about clothes & purses.  It is my goal from this moment forward to write from my heart, to share my shoes & my passion for my own brand of fashion (which is NOT about what the celebrities are wearing)  and along the way, hopefully offer you some information that you may find helpful as well.

I wish you much success and I hope that this blog will become a little more interesting.  All the best.

You know it figures that I would find a way to get shoes without a ton of effort.  Well, recently, I have come across a site that will send you shoes picked by expert designers based on answers you provide.  The designers pick 5 pair a month to present to you and then you decide which pair, if any you want.

The Shoe of the Month Club

The head designer is Kim Kardashian.  I’m not one for celebrity fashion trends but I love shoes and if I can sign up and get a pair a month for a low fee, then I say, let’s get some shoes!

The other wonderful thing about Shoedazzle that makes it different from other monthly clubs is, first when you get your initial selection, if you don’t choose a pair of shoes, you aren’t billed.  Secondly, once you pick a pair, you are billed each month unless within the first 5 days of them sending you the selections, you can choose to pass for the month and not be billed.

I joined the book of the month club and no matter what, I get a bill each month.  I like the shoe club better by the way.  Go figure!  The choices I got this month included both heels and flats.  I can honestly say that I liked at least 3 out of the 5 selections that were sent to me.  In a case like that, you are not limited to just the one pair, just know that each pair is going to cost you the $39.95 fee.

The Shoe of the Month Club

The shipping is free so that at least makes it worth it knowing that these shoes are not going to be found at the local mall so you won’t see yourself coming & going.  To me, that alone makes the $39.95 worth it.

Platforms, booties, pumps & flats that are trendy, cute and reasonably priced.  I love it!  Check them out, what have you got to lose?  This is MY version of those dating sites that find your perfect mate.  :-)  Happy Shopping!
